Vegan Wholewheat Momos/Baked Momos
Here is a simple recipe for momos made of whole wheat flour,to be served with any tangy sauce.
about 1 1/2 cup of flour made of whole wheat
3 tbsp of oil
1 tsp each of dried basil and parsley flakes
an inch of chopped ginger
5 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 cups of vegetables, finely shredded( carrot, cabbage, capsicum,1/2 a cup of onion)
2 finely shredded red chillies (choose mild heat)
1 tsp of soy sauce
Make a smooth dough using the flour ,water and a spoonful of oil. Add salt, pepper( 1 tsp), parsley and basil flakes, knead well.Cover it and leave it for 2 hours.
Add 2 tbsp of oil , garlic and onion to a pan and fry for about 2 minutes. Add the vegetables, chillies, ginger and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Add soy sauce and salt .Mix well and cook for a minute.Turn off the heat.
After two hours, make small balls out of dough and flatten them into thin discs. (Rub oil on the palm before touching the dough to prevent it from sticking.)Into each disc add the vegetables from the pan with a spoon and join the edges to make momos.(They do not look good the first time but they get better.)
Steam the momos and serve hot. Alternately, bake them at 180 degrees for 20 minutes for a crisp outer layer.Serve hot with your favourite sauce.
